Step 2: Boot Camp Day

On the first day of the course, you will participate in a full-day workshop called “Mastering the Secrets of Certifying Board Exam Success.” We’ve interviewed dozens of ex-examiners and recent exam-takers to determine what it really takes to pass this exam and what mistakes are commonly made. Then we designed a workshop to help you develop the performance skills you need to pass your oral exam, including:

Anticipating Examiners’ Expectations: Our experienced faculty members know what examiners are looking for, and can make it easier for you to give them what they want. We’ll also help you recognize some of the tricks examiners use to try to trip you up.

Focusing on Key Points: We make it easier for you to learn what you need to know by focusing our course only on the information that is covered in the exam.

Organizing the Clinical Information: We’ll show you how to take the information they present you in the oral exam, make an assessment of the situation, and formulate a plan for treatment.

Understanding the Exam Format: You’ll become familiar with the actual exam format and practice with it, so you won’t have any surprises.

Avoiding Common Mistakes: Asking too many questions, looking for signals of approval from examiners, and presenting vague assessments and treatment plans are examples of common mistakes made by certifying exam candidates. In the workshop you will be trained in correct techniques that avoid these common exam pitfalls.

Our course covers a broad range of clinical situations. Each mock exam will present the candidate with situations similar to the ones used in the board exam. We will present four (4) clinical scenarios in 30 minute sessions, followed by a 15 minutes feedback session.

Step 3: Three Mock-Exam Days

Under the guidance of our expert faculty, you will participate in two mock exams, then view and learn from dozens of exam-style clinical scenarios. These mock exams cover the exact type of situations used in the actual board exam. Each exam features a 30-minute period in which you will be presented with four (4) clinical scenarios, followed by a 15-minute feedback session. During these intense days of practice, you will have the opportunity to improve your clinical skills in:

  • Organizing the diagnostic evaluation
  • Determining appropriate medical and surgical therap
  • Applying appropriate judgment
  • Articulating clearly and concisely high-level reasoning and problem-solving ability
