Read What Your Colleagues Are Saying About This Course
“I took this course starting a few months before my exam. I watched all the lectures online. And I completed many practice tests. There are so many practice questions that you probably won't get through all of them unless you have a lot of time. After leaving the exam room on the day of my test, I felt that this course had adequately prepared me. I was RIGHT. I passed the exam with a fantastic score, well above the minimum passing score. Thanks to API for great preparation for this exam!”
Christopher Franco, DO, Lyndhurst, OH
“I took the pass machine board review course in 2014 to prepare for the Basic anesthesiology exam and I PASSED the basic exam on my first attempt. I decided to use the pass machine board review for the Advanced anesthesiology exam. I figured since it worked so well the first time. Again, I was able to PASS the advanced exam on my first attempt. The lecture material and question bank are solid and very high yield. It was worth every penny!”
Sophonie Noel, MD, Brooklyn, NY
“I received my score and I passed ; i feel that the course was great and had more material and expert opinion than what was needed and was a good investment in my education ; will definitely consider API for future exam prep.”
Nayan Patel, MD, Kansas City, MD
“I used this course for both my basic and advanced boards and passed both. This course streamlined the information and made everything seamless.”
Atif Chowdhury, MD, Chicago, IL
“Probably the best product out there. Followed content outline perfectly and focused on real high yield topics. I personally would have missed some important information if it wasn't for this course. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone taking the advanced exam, even if you don't like review courses. The lectures are spot on, outline was well organized and very few holes in content overall. Great product for review or to hit topics most people would probably think were low yield.”
Willam Mulvoy, MD, La Crescenta, Ca
“Great course . I swear by it. I used it for the basic exam and did well and was confident going into the advanced exam. The course covered every tested topic and high yield topics we covered extensively. The question bank was very helpful and right on the point. I would use this course for any test if i could. Seriously the best course out there.”
Dora Nqwang, MD, Cleveland, OH
“After having took the BASIC course from API and passing the BASIC exam, I knew that I would definitely be doing the ADVANCED course in order to prepare me for this examination. Once again, API hit the nail on the head with my preparation for this exam. No hesitation in recommending this course and other courses to other residents!”
Ty Slatton, MD, Monroeville, PA
“Great questions that were geared towards the exam.”
Brandon Smoller, MD, Worcester, MA

American Board of Anesthesiology Covid-19 Update
This information is updated weekly. For the most current update, please visit the ABA website.
Update August 31, 2020: How the MOCA 2.0 waiver impacts your certification. Earlier this year, we waived all 2020 MOCA requirements in light of the extraordinary circumstances presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. We’ve created a plan to ensure your certification will not be negatively impacted if you are unable to complete MOCA requirements this year.
All ABA diplomates have been sent personalized emails specific to the certifications they’re maintaining. Please contact us at 866-999-7501 or at [email protected] if you have questions or have not received a message from us.
Update August 24, 2020:Board moves to virtual administration of the APPLIED Exam in Spring of 2021.The Board—which has been working carefully and diligently since May to adapt the APPLIED Exam to meet the challenges presented by the pandemic—has voted to move forward with a virtual administration of the APPLIED Examination in the spring of 2021.
In working to adapt the APPLIED Exam for a virtual administration, our goal has been to maintain the integrity of the exam and assess as many candidates as possible, while avoiding as many preventable technical issues as possible. We acknowledge that, while this solution will not be perfect, we will do our utmost to provide a valid and reliable exam experience for our candidates and our examiners. We plan to return to in-person assessments as soon as it is safe to do so, possibility in the fall 2021.
Update July 14, 2020: Statement from ABA Secretary on the Cancellation of 2020 APPLIED Exams.
ABA Secretary David O. Warner, M.D., explains in the video below our rationale for cancelling this year’s APPLIED Exams and addresses our plans for the future. It is with deep regret that the Board has cancelled APPLIED Exam Weeks 7.5-9. This decision was made in light of travel restrictions ordered by states and cities across the U.S. due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases and out of concern for the safety of our candidates, examiners and staff. In the coming weeks and months, we will continue the work we have already begun to adapt the APPLIED Exam to meet the challenges presented by the pandemic (e.g. risk-mitigation measures for in-person exams and a virtual administration). We will continue to share our 2021 exam plans as they progress.
All candidates whose 2020 APPLIED exam were cancelled will be automatically registered for a 2021 exam. Appointments will be assigned based on the order of this year’s exam weeks (e.g. 2020 Week 2 candidates will be scheduled for an earlier appointment than 2020 Week 7 candidates).
