Read What Your Colleagues Are Saying About This Course
“I have the story of all stories. Previously I had failed the initial certification (Internal Medicine) exam 4 to 6 times. The ABIM notified me that was my last attempt to pass, otherwise I would have to go back to do at least another year of Internal Medicine Residency to regain my Board Eligibility status...my 10 year exemption was up.
I did the live review course in Chicago, went thru all live lectures at least 1 more time, went thru all written lecture notes at least twice. Did the entire Q-bank.....TWICE for a total of just shy of 5,000 questions.
Studied for a year and a half.
I made notes on my own of all topics that I was confused on or didn't understand.
My compliment is this......I PASSSED!!!!!!!
The material provided to me was spot on....but you have to put the work in.
My situation couldn't have been any more critical with a new house, wife and kids.
I would have lost me current job.
I personally can't THANK API enough and can only hope my story helps others and becomes advertised widely within API.
To all of API.....thank you, thank you and thank you again. I am forever in your debt.”
Todd Gray, MD, Davenport, IA
“This course proved to be absolutely essential to passing the IM board exam! Each of the topic lectures were comprehensive yet concise enough to feel comfortable with answering any board question. Even the Acid-Base lecture was easy to follow. Planning to sign up again once MOC exam rears its ugly head!”
Allison Goldsmith, MD, Columbus, OH
“Getting away from the office for a week and focusing on studying for this exam was just what I needed. I was able to stop worrying about how I was going to tackle this material and start narrowing down what I needed to focus on and identifying any weak points. I am thrilled to report that I passed my exam October 2010. Thank you Dr. Krasuski for organizing and developing this course!”
Allison Goldsmith, MD, Columbus, OH
“I found the course you gave the best review course I have ever attended. Since I have been in practice for 25 years I can offer a degree of validity to that statement. Your speakers provided clear concise and informative information about their subjects and gave insights into pathophysiology that I never knew existed. It cleared up a lot of doubts. I had in some of the areas I don’t always practice. I am using the online video to review and believe that is one of the most important aspects of this. I will also do the review questions after I have completed the lectures again. Your support staff were professional and ran the program like a military operation. Cudos to you for having come up with a superior product.”
Jorge Gardyn, MD, Amityville, NY
“I have been impressed with the course, including the depth of topic coverage, as well as the panel of physicians chosen as speakers. When I first signed up for the course, I did not know of anyone else who had taken the course. This course has provided me with didactic sessions and with materials I will be able to review at home in several formats, as well as board-style questions/answers. I compared to other board review courses – no other course offered all of these features and backed with the guarantee. I would highly recommend this course.”
Daniel Duran, MD, Knoxville, TN
“Best overall board course I have ever taken! In addition to the well-organized course materials, the faculty are attentive to important clinical pearls needed not only for passing the boards, but also important for providing excellent competent care for our patients with the latest best practices. The triple guarantee and attention to important details (excellent course materials, even markers, ad meals at a cost-effective hotel with a better negotiated rate) were much-appreciated bonuses. The availability to have an onsite as well as online course makes this an excellent choice.”
Valerie Pronio Stelluto, MD, FACP, West Roxbury, MA
“This review course was a fantastic review of Internal Medicine in regards to its focus on the IM Board Exam. It will be very useful in my clinical practice as well. The course was very attentive to my educational needs in helping me to optimize studying in the most effective way. The addition of online videos and questions further increased my satisfaction with this review. Finally, the specialists in each field represented here were exceptional.”
Jay Patel, MD, Aurora, OH“I use the materials from the course for my clinical and expert witness work. Not only did I pass the test, I saw the material in a different way so it wasn't just rote memorization. Thank you.”
Karen Josephson, MD, Long Beach, CA

“I think this was an excellent amount of information delivered in this short time. I have yet to do the exam to find out how the course helps. Irrespective of the exam, it is a good way to brush up and feel confident about practicing medicine. Speakers were great, knowledgeable and great presenters for the most part.”
Savita Sheth, MD, South Windsor, CT
“Overall, the course is very good. The convenience of being able to study at home cannot be overstated. The lectures were informative, educational and cleared up some ‘muddy waters’ issues for me. I learned something of value from every lecture.”
Mary Pellioni, MD, Temperance, MI
“Well-organized and pertinent material was the main focus, avoiding less helpful areas of internal medicine. The speakers were good and engaging. There was more than adequate time for some one-on-one interaction with the lecturers. Online access outside the conference venue was a big plus. I strongly recommend this course.”
Henry Roy, MD, Sweden, ME
“A great course! Choice of location (Arlington Heights, IL) was wonderful. For the intensity and focus required, it was refreshing to be away from the congestion of the down town, big-city areas. With the scope to be covered, I believe the presenters did a great job!”

Internal Medicine MOC Testimonials
“As an internal medicine and pediatrics physician, I had to maintain certification for both boards. I first took the pediatrics course and passed the exam. I just completed the internal medicine board review course. Again, I passed with a score well above the mean. Both times, I felt I was well prepared for the exams. The study material and questions were very representative of the questions on the board exams. Major topics were highlighted by the lectures and study materials. I have recommended this course to my colleagues who have come back to thank me for letting them know about this excellent course. I definitely will be taking the course again when I am due to recertify again.”
Hugh Pabarue, MD, Macomb, MI
“I first took the IM boards right after residency and used MKSAP. I failed. I then retook the exam a few years later, again using MKSAP, and just barely passed. Now, 10 years later, for the MOC exam, I again used MKSAP and failed the exam. This past fall, I saw The Pass Machine and decided to try it out as I was striking out with MKSAP. I went to The Pass Machine in Las Vegas, and studied exclusively with your materials for this exam. I am happy to report that I SMOKED the MOC exam thereafter -- I didn't just barely pass, I SMOKED it with a very high score.
Sandra Barton, MD, Portland, OR
“I signed up for your course for the ABIM maintenance of certification exam preparation. I was very pleased with your program as a video with many test questions. Your speakers were clear, concise and dynamic. The test questions were mostly very good and helpful in identifying those subtleties the boards always seem to include in their tests. I am pleased and proud to say I passed. Thank you for your help.”
Catherine R. Landers, MD, Skokie, IL
“I loved The Pass Machine. It was intense and packed full of both the obvious and obscure. I was reassured that much of the material presented was familiar to me and those old "pearls" from medical school and residency came flying back from the dark reaches of my memory banks. The course instructors effectively guided me and the other attendees through the realm of Internal Medicine and most sub-specialty areas. They were spot-on! Almost all of the questions on my exam had been covered by the Pass Machine course material and very little of the study guide "lists" material was needed. The material presented was not new, it just needed refreshing and The Pass Machine did that. I can't say that I was completely confident going in to my ABIM exam, but when I saw so many familiar topics and questions, I was pretty confident coming out. 2 months later when my "pass" letter came, I was not surprised. I feel the refresher course (that’s how I think of The Pass Machine now) has made me a better internist. I will take the course again in about 5 years, well before my next recertification, just to keep me up to date. Thanks, Pass Machine.”
Sarah Meloche, MD, Friendswood, TX
“I'm a busy practicing physician, mother, and wife and had no time to take off or start preparing months in advance for recertification. I really found this board review helped my practicing knowledge as well as pass the boards. The material was comprehensive and yet relevant to the boards. All the speakers were well prepared. Best of all, I could listen to the lectures at my convenience. I would highly recommend it to my colleagues. In fact, I persuaded my husband to try it and he passed the boards the following year! Thanks!”
Sabahat Nawab, MD, McLean, VA
“I passed the ABIM/MOC with a high grade. The American Physician Institute prepared me well to pass the boards. The American Physician Institute provides a balanced, bias-free, and well organized continuing medical education program which prepares us for the challenges of certification and recertification. It is a great preparation course for your boards.”
Mohamed Abouhasira, MD, Midlothian, VA
“Thank you again for this course. I was able to successfully pass the boards. The information provided was concise and accurate without extraneous filler. I will recommend this to my peers!”
Debjoti Sensharma, MD, Phoenix, AZ
“The course was a complete, concise and engaging review of General Internal Medicine. I took the course for recertification and passed! Although, I have recertified I plan on listening to the lectures again! I enjoyed the lectures very much.”
Geraldine Darroca, MD, Carmel, IN
“The Pass Machine Board Recertification prep course helped me immensely and was a critical factor in my passing first time. I feel that without having attended the course, despite my private study over many months, it would have been a real challenge! I found the prep questions we went through during the various modules were at precisely the level of difficulty of the exam itself, and in that regard were an ideal form of preparation. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend your course to anyone preparing for Boards for the first time, or for re-certification.”
Christopher Da Costa, MD, Furlong, PA
“I took the Internal Medicine recertification exam in September 2012. This was my first time to recertify in IM. As an osteopathic physician I was required to attend the ACOI Internal Medicine Board Review course. I also signed up for the Pass Machine’s online course. I found the Pass Machine lectures easy to watch, engaging and very thorough. As a sub-specialist I have not practiced Internal Medicine since my residency and have thus forgotten a lot of the material. The Pass Machine provided a comprehensive review of material I had not thought of in 10 years! Compared to the board review course I was required to take, the Pass Machine was by far superior and more thorough. I particularly liked the sample questions. They were effective at getting you back into test taking mode. I also like that you can have access to all of the materials by purchasing the online only version. I was 7 months pregnant with twins when the in-person course was offered and unable to travel, so the online option was perfect for me. One of the first questions on my recertification exam was covered directly in one of the lectures I watched the night before the exam! I am extremely pleased that I purchased this course and have recommended it to many of my colleagues facing recertification.”
Jessica Hals, DO, FACOI, Fort Worth, TX
“There were many board review courses to choose from; however, I chose The Pass Machine because of the location, the timing, and the guarantee that I would pass. Other positives included the syllabus of medicine topics, the fact that I could review the lectures I attended on-line, and the many practice exams at my fingertips. After returning home, I reviewed the syllabus, watched some of the lectures on-line, and as test time drew closer, I used the practice exams as a method of studying. I was very pleased with your course and I would recommend it to anyone recertifying for internal medicine. Thank you.”
Sonia Proudfoot, MD, Somerset, KY
“There is so much information to study, it is hard to know what to review for the MOC. Taking this course allows you to focus on the subjects to the extent necessary to Pass the Internal Medicine MOC. If you know what is in this material, it will be enough to pass!”
Scott Brasseur, MD, Hastings, MI
“This has been the most useful part of my effort to prepare for Recertification in Internal Medicine. The lectures are interesting and remind me of so much I would have forgotten. The instructors clearly focus on the material that we need. They are all well-spoken, organized and coherent. Terrific course!”
Alice Emery, MD, Grand Rapids, MI
“I came with the intention of seeing what I already knew & what I still need to learn prior to recertifying in April 2011. The course covered a good amount of information, but more important is the fact that I can now review more specific areas when I get home. The fact that the course is available online & especially on the iPod will make it much easier to study anywhere.”
Barbara Modic, MD, Youngstown, OH
“This was the second time I had to sit for the recertification examination. The course was well worth the time, effort and cost. I was very impressed with the study guide, the lectures, the online review and MOC test questions. I highly recommend the class to all of my colleagues and I'm sure I'll be seeing you again in ten years!”
Paul Schwartz, MD, Delray Beach, FL

We know internists and internal medicine subspecialists have been on the front lines meeting the country’s needs, many experiencing the tragedy of COVID in deeply personal ways. In recognition of the disruption and urgent clinical responsibilities our colleagues have lived through, ABIM is extending deadlines for all Maintenance of Certification (MOC) requirements to 12/31/22.
This means that no one will lose certification if they aren’t able to complete any MOC requirement this year. You and your well-being were the most important factors in this decision.
Knowing that the effects of the pandemic have not been evenly distributed and that some of you may elect to take an exam in 2021, ABIM will continue to offer all exams this year as scheduled. You can find more details on our website and via a link at the bottom of this email. In January, 2022 ABIM will launch a new longitudinal knowledge assessment, a more flexible and convenient way to maintain your certification. Physicians who decide to delay their 2021 assessment will be able to enroll in the longitudinal assessment when it rolls out (pending availability), or can choose to take the traditional, 10-year MOC exam if they prefer. In certain cardiology disciplines the Collaborative Maintenance Pathway will remain an option.
The pandemic is a once-in-a-century event, and when we announced an extension of MOC requirements last year we all hoped it would be over by now. But even as we’ve collectively made significant progress toward that end, the fact remains it will still be some time until we are on the other side of this.
We know and understand the demands that have been placed on you, your practice, and your life. While you’ve been keeping up with the rapidly emerging science and evidence on how to treat COVID-19, you may not have had the time to adequately prepare for an ABIM assessment the way you would in a normal year. We also recognize the high levels of stress you may have faced over the last 12 months, and that it will likely be some time until it subsides. We hope this gives you one less thing to worry about.
We are in the process of updating the ABIM Physician Portal to reflect these changes, and if you have any questions about your requirements, we encourage you to call us at 1-800-441-ABIM or email [email protected]. We will continue to keep you informed via email and on abim.org about important program updates.
No matter what you decide to do this year, we speak for our entire Board as we thank you for all you do for your patients as an expert board certified physician. Stay safe.
Update: March 2, 2021: ABIM to Extend All MOC Requirement Deadlines Through 2022 – In light of the impact the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic continues to have on physicians, ABIM’s Board of Directors has decided to extend the deadline for all MOC requirements – including points, assessments and attestations – through the end of 2022. We will be communicating this information broadly to all board certified physicians the week of 3/8 via email.
During the week of 3/1, ABIM has prioritized getting this information to physicians who are scheduled to take the Cardiology, Gastroenterology or Rheumatology Knowledge Check-Ins (KCI) on 3/5 and 3/6 in order to give those physicians the opportunity to immediately make the decisions that work best for them.
As these physicians may need help with understanding their options, as well as technical support on the KCI testing days, we are asking for physicians in all other specialties who are not facing imminent deadlines to hold off on contacting us during the week of 3/1 - 3/6 so that we are available to those physicians who face time-sensitive demands. Please be on the lookout for an email from ABIM early the week of 3/8 with more information about the Board’s decision and what it means for you.
UPDATE: December 17, 2020: Board Certified Doctors Can Lead By Example with the COVID-19 Vaccine - To bolster public confidence in getting vaccinated for COVID-19, ABIM is calling on all board certified physicians to not only get the vaccine themselves, but to post selfies while they are getting it to build patient trust. As a board-certified physician, the decisions you make about being immunized will have an impact on the decisions made by your patients, your families, and your colleagues. Learn more about how to get involved on ABIM’s blog.
UPDATE: December 15, 2020: ABIM Certificate Printing Delayed - Due to recent increases in COVID-19 cases in our area, the City of Philadelphia has issued a stay-at-home order with which ABIM headquarters must comply. With our staff members working remotely in compliance with local and state guidelines, paper certificate printing and mailing is unavailable at this time. We know physicians take great pride in their ABIM Board Certification. While we aren’t able to produce paper certificates right now, we do encourage physicians to check out the digital badges ABIM rolled out last year. You can download your badge from your Physician Portal and add it to your email signature or web pages to promote your ABIM Board Certification. We also provide resources, such as social media images, infographics and templates for a press release and newsletter article, to promote your certification to your peers, patients and community. Please note: if asked, you do not need your paper certificate to prove your ABIM Board Certification. ABIM’s website serves as the primary source verification for credentialists.
UPDATE: October 28, 2020: Registration and Assessments for 2021 - We are actively monitoring the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and at this time, we are still planning to open registration for 2021 assessments on December 1, 2020 and administer all assessments as scheduled. We will continue to update this page and any changes specific to your certification and requirements will be communicated via email. To ensure we’re able to and we will update you if anything changes. If you haven’t already, please confirm we have your most up to date contact information.
Update July 10, 2020: Scheduled for an assessment?
ABIM is working with Pearson VUE to ensure your safety throughout your exam day. Learn more about what to expect at test centers by reading our updated FAQs.
To be admitted to the test center, Pearson VUE may ask if you live with or have had close contact with someone who has confirmed or suspected COVID-19. We recognize many physicians are on the front lines treating patients during the pandemic, and in doing so may have come in close contact with someone who has confirmed or suspected COVID-19. Rest assured that physicians (medical/healthcare professionals) who treat patients while both are wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) will be admitted to the test center.
If you experience any issues being admitted to the test center on exam day, please call us at 1-800-441-ABIM (2246).
Update July 7, 2020: Update for IM Certification Exam Appointment Cancellations
Earlier today, some physicians received an automated email from ABIM reminding them to schedule their exam appointment. Our sincere apologies for any confusion that may have caused.
The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted our lives in many ways. Unfortunately, capacity has decreased at all Pearson VUE test centers to maintain safety. As such, some appointments to take the Internal Medicine Certification Examination have been canceled and must be rescheduled.
If this applies to you, you should also receive this email, which clarifies important questions around why your appointment has been canceled and what your next steps are. If your exam is still scheduled in your Physician Portal, you have not been impacted.
If you need help or have any questions, please contact us at 1-800-441-ABIM (2246), Mon. - Fri., 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET or at [email protected], and we’ll provide you with personalized assistance to walk through your options.

The Pass Machine Internal Medicine Board Review – Frequently Asked Questions
General Questions about The Pass Machine and American Physician Institute
Is The Pass Machine different from other board reviews?
Yes, in three main ways:
1. The Pass Machine board review is the most comprehensive option. More than just a Question Bank of practice questions, each course includes in-depth lectures in a familiar classroom setting presented by expert faculty. This means you get a topic-by-topic review of exactly what’s on the board exam in much greater detail than what you can get from Qbank answer explanations.
2. Because the physician’s schedule is typically a hectic one, The Pass Machine is optimized for on-the-go review. Components such as the audio-only lecture option, iOS and Andriod app for mobile review, and offline access capability, and a fully-illustrated board-mapped study guide make The Pass Machine review easy to incorporate at any point your daily routine.
3. The Triple Trust Guarantee not only gives you a full tuition refund if you don’t pass the exam the first time after taking the course, but it also gives you an extra 10% AND allows you continued access until you pass, for free. This unprecedented guarantee serves to assure you of the confidence we have that The Pass Machine content is exceptional.
Who produces The Pass Machine Courses? Where do you get your faculty?
The Pass Machine board review courses are produced by American Physician Institute for Advanced Professional Studies, LLC (API). API conducts dozens of courses and trains thousands of physicians each year to pass their boards and stay up-to-date in their fields. Every single one of American Physician Institute‘s educational courses has full editorial independence, is free of pharmaceutical and industry sponsorship and is backed by an unbeatable guarantee. Because of its reputation for excellence, American Physician Institute is able to enlist many of the top faculty from the best universities, teaching hospitals and research facilities in the country to provide you with Category 1 CME educational activities.
Do you provide board review for other medical specialties?
Yes! In fact, we provide preparation for dozens of other specialty and subspecialty board exams. Check out www.AmericanPhysician.com for the full list.
Is it likely that my employer will cover my tuition?
Because all The Pass Machine courses are approved for PRA / AMA Category 1 CME credits, it is likely that your tuition will be reimbursed. You may be surprised at how many residency and fellowship training programs, group practices, and other employers pay for or reimburse you for such Category 1 educational activities. After all, it’s in everyone’s best interests to have you board certified. It really pays to ask your training director, medical director or administrator if you are eligible because some training programs and employers do pay for board exam training. And, if you work for the Federal Government, American Physician Institute is a certified business in the CCR database and can accept government checks and credit cards.
Does The Pass Machine offer any free board review resources?

The guarantee expires in the event the exam for which this course is designed is no longer offered by the certifying board.
The Triple Trust Guarantee sounds too good to be true—is it for real?
Yes, it’s completely real. Rest assured, API has always honored its guarantees and always will. No other company does? The Triple Trust Guarantee is API’s way of demonstrating that it’s just as invested in your success as you are. After all, if you fail your board exam, API will pay a penalty. What should I do if I don’t pass my board exam?
First, it’s important to remember that a non-passing result is not necessarily a reflection on your abilities as a physician. The way the ABIM tests you is not the same as the many ways you’re “tested” as a practicing physician.
