Each question carefully follows the ABIM® board exam content outline and format, allowing you to test your exam preparedness while advancing your command of the exam content.
Realistic Test Environment: Your patients test you every day – but not in the same way the ABIM® Hospice & Palliative Medicine boards test you! You’ll prepare by taking practice tests in a format that’s just like the actual exam.
The “QBL” Method: “Question-Based Learning” ensures that your review is 100% relevant to the ABIM® Hospice & Palliative Medicine exam. This proven method works by pairing multiple choice questions with related lectures, allowing you to review a topic before answering the corresponding question.
Optimized for Learning: Unlike other Q Bank MCQs, The Pass Machine Hospice & Palliative Medicine practice questions include detailed, referenced explanations. So you’re not only testing your knowledge of hospice & palliative medicine – you’re learning the “how” and “why” behind every question.

“I’m in downtown Chicago to highlight the anytime/anywhere/offline flexibility of The Pass Machine course. This Hospice & Palliative Medicine prep course features 22.75 hours of laser-focused lectures and 800+ Q Bank questions. But here’s the rub – all that great content will do you no good if you don’t get through it in time for the exam. Here are a few examples of the ease of preparing with The Pass Machine: 1) listen to audio lectures on the app as you commute to and from work, 2) answer a few MCQs on your lunch break, 3) watch video lectures as you work-out on the stair climber or exercise bike, and 4) when you know you’ll be on call without Wi-Fi or cellular signal, download lectures to your phone ahead of time. Works great on flights as well!
Here at American Physician Institute we’re dedicated to your board success. That’s why we offer you a better-than-money-back pass guarantee. We don’t succeed unless you succeed.”
Yours in board exam success,
Jack Krasuski, MD, Executive Director

“It is my pleasure to let you know that I have passed my Boards. Thank you so much for your concise course and the profound sense of confidence you have given me. You have presented an unprecedented and simply amazing review of hospice and palliative care. This is the best, most focused, most useful teaching program not only for the boards but also for the practice that I have ever reviewed or attended. The clarity, simplicity and information are truly amazing. The course is very unique, focused and board-orientated. The diligence, profound knowledge in hospice and palliative care and conscientiousness makes it possible to review so much information in a few days. Anyone who can understand and memorize most of this review will certainly pass the Board.”
Gurdeep Kaur, MD, Novi, MI
“I am someone who had to pass to be able to grandfather in. I have plenty of hospice experience but really needed all the other extra formal stuff. I know for a fact that I wouldn’t have passed the exam without The Pass Machine review. It was completely geared to the exam without any extra drivel, or somebody’s ego making them talk about unnecessary stuff that would have been useless for the job at hand. I found you by accident on the net and bless the day I did! Thank you!”
Alina Lopo, MD, PhD, Tarzana, CA
“The course was very well-organized. I was amazed at how responsive the organizers were to our needs during the course. The speakers were excellent and the handouts for the lectures were extremely relevant and easy to follow. I truly feel that taking this course helped me prepare for and pass the Hospice and Palliative Care Boards.”
Keerti Sharma, MD, AGSF, West Orange, NJ
“I used The Pass Machine lectures for Hospice and Palliative Medicine exam and I passed it the first time! The review course is excellent and all the information is up-to-date. It was also convenient, as I took the course online!”
Bahija Saouf, MD, Goleta, CA
“The course was excellent and if it were not for the course, I would have not passed the board exams. Yes, I appeared for the ABIM Hospice and Palliative Med board and passed it the first time. I will recommend your course to everybody. Very helpful, organized, relevant and to the point!”
Sohail Khan, MD, FACO, Lynnhaven, FL
“Yes, I passed. This is a wonderful course. Very complete and to the point. Faculty is just perfect.”
Saqib Rashid, MD, Exeter, CA
Nathan Boles, MD, Biloxi, MS
“This course absolutely helped me pass. The lectures were well organized, and I felt properly prepared for the content on the exam.”
Jennifer Cohen, MD, MMSc, West Chester, PA
“I used The Pass Machine prep course for the Hospice and Palliative Medicine board exam in 2012. I can honestly say that I had never taken a medical board exam ‘prep’ course, and have always done well on licensing exams on my own – but needed good study material to help prepare for this exam. I primarily viewed this as an investment in a syllabus to study, but was surprised by the quality and spectrum of the online lectures, which became a foundation for my board prep. I felt that the lecturers were from a broad background and were leaders in their respective fields within HPM. The lectures were brisk yet easy to follow and did not have any background ‘fluff.’ My time and money spent on The Pass Machine were extremely well spent and I would not hesitate to strongly encourage anyone attempting the Hospice and Palliative Medicine board exam to take this course. When I sat for the exam I felt prepared and was able to calmly work through the more difficult problems, as the practice test material from The Pass Machine was generally more difficult than the actual exam.”
Lauren Loftis, MD, Durango, CO
“I had very little exposure to hospice, but this course taught me all that is needed to pass the board! This course, I believe, will be particularly helpful to the vast majority of physicians who cannot grasp all material with a one-time hearing. I checked the website after the first day and as promised, material was uploaded on the website!”
Abulhasam Sayed, MD, Farmington Hills, MI
“Using The Pass Machine in preparing for the hospice boards was the best decision I could have made. It was very comprehensive and really helped focus on key points. I think the practice tests were what put my preparation on track. I felt using this review course helped me study and prepare more efficiently. I felt very confident going into the board exams- it made a huge difference for me. I will be using the course for my internal medicine boards in the future. Thank you.”
Kristin Griffin, MD, Ozark, MO
“By far the most convenient, goal-oriented, and focused review you can ever encounter. Not a single question on the test felt out of context or foreign. I recommend it without reservations. I am a busy practicing nephrologist and during my preparation for the test with The Pass Machine, I did not have to change my full schedule in the office, the dialysis center, or the hospital consults!”
Sergio Vega, MD, FASN, West Palm Beach, FL
“The American Physician Institute course was an integral part of my preparation and I am appreciative of the physician educators who participated in the course lectures. The intensive review course, from a clinical and practical standpoint, was part of the strategy for my successful completion of the Hospice and Palliative Care Boards.”
Holly Cranston, MD, Pittsburgh, KS
“This is my first time attending API board review. I was very impressed with the course. Most of the speakers are excellent, the staff is wonderful! Hopefully, I will pass the board of Hospice & Palliative Care medicine. If I pass the board, I’m considering taking the review course for my internal medicine & geriatric medicine recertification.”
Xiangrong Shao, MD, Baltimore, MD
“It was easy to pay attention and stay awake. I enjoyed the course in its entirety and regretted missing the first hour due to flight problems. However, the tape was available online that night and I felt as though I missed nothing. I am looking forward to the next two months of focused review as I study this material for my exam.”
Gary Spangler Jr., MD, League City, TX

Update July 10, 2020: Scheduled for an assessment?
ABIM is working with Pearson VUE to ensure your safety throughout your exam day. Learn more about what to expect at test centers by reading our updated FAQs.
To be admitted to the test center, Pearson VUE may ask if you live with or have had close contact with someone who has confirmed or suspected COVID-19. We recognize many physicians are on the front lines treating patients during the pandemic, and in doing so may have come in close contact with someone who has confirmed or suspected COVID-19. Rest assured that physicians (medical/healthcare professionals) who treat patients while both are wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) will be admitted to the test center.
If you experience any issues being admitted to the test center on exam day, please call us at 1-800-441-ABIM (2246).
Update July 7, 2020: Update for IM Certification Exam Appointment Cancellations
Earlier today, some physicians received an automated email from ABIM reminding them to schedule their exam appointment. Our sincere apologies for any confusion that may have caused.
The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted our lives in many ways. Unfortunately, capacity has decreased at all Pearson VUE test centers to maintain safety. As such, some appointments to take the Internal Medicine Certification Examination have been canceled and must be rescheduled.
If this applies to you, you should also receive this email, which clarifies important questions around why your appointment has been canceled and what your next steps are. If your exam is still scheduled in your Physician Portal, you have not been impacted.
If you need help or have any questions, please contact us at 1-800-441-ABIM (2246), Mon. - Fri., 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET or at [email protected], and we’ll provide you with personalized assistance to walk through your options.
