Dr. Philip C. Hoffman has been a full-time faculty member at the University of Chicago since 1980. He graduated from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University, and did his residency in Internal Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, both in Philadelphia, PA. After a stint in the U.S. Public Health Service as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer in the Hospital Infections Branch, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta, GA, he completed his fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at the University of Chicago.
He joined the faculty of the University of Chicago in 1980, and has focused his practice on breast cancer, lung cancer and classical hematology. He has won numerous teaching awards during his career, including ASCO’s Excellence in Teaching Award in 2016, and a Distinguished Service Award from the Department of Medicine in 2021. He currently is Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Section of Hematology/Oncology, and Associate Section Chief for Academic Affairs.
