Dr. Gillespie earned his medical degree from Oregon Health and Science University, then completed his pediatric residency training at Rush Children’s Hospital in Chicago, IL, followed by a year as Chief Resident at Rush. He also received a Master of Health Professions Education from the University of Illinois- Chicago. Dr. Gillespie is committed to improving the quality of care delivered to children of all ages. He has been instrumental in training providers across the state on the implementation of various screening tools, including for developmental delays, autism, adolescent depression and substance abuse, and maternal depression. He is currently working on screening for parental Adverse Childhood Experiences (a project shared within TCC with Dr. Pettersen) and has been recognized nationally for this work.
Dr. Gillespie has served as the Medical Director for the Oregon Pediatric Improvement Partnership working with multiple practices across the state in improving the quality of care given to all children. He also advocates for children in multiple state policy committees, including the workgroups responsible for deciding the maternal and child health quality measurements that are used in assessing the care delivered through the Coordinated Care Organizations. He has also been involved in the committees responsible for determining the standards for practices becoming certified as a medical home under the state’s Patient Centered Primary Care Home Program. He is a member of the AAP, Oregon Pediatric Society, and recipient of the John L. Stevenson Award for Excellence in General Pediatrics (Legacy Randall Children’s Hospital).
