Dr. Barto specializes in pulmonary disease, specifically Cystic Fibrosis. She earned her medical degree from Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, NE and then completed a residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at Pennsylvania State University Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA. Dr. Barto completed her fellowship in pulmonary and critical care at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC where she stayed to complete additional training in the care of Cystic Fibrosis patients. During her time there she also completed a Masters in Clinical Research.
Dr. Barto joined Baylor College of Medicine in 2012 as a member of the adult cystic fibrosis care center, since then she has become the associate director and subsequently the medical director of the Maconda Brown O’Conner PhD Adult Cystic Fibrosis Center and has led her team to multiple local and national recognitions, while continuing to provide the highest level of care to these specialized patients. Dr. Barto is also very involved in Phase I-IV clinical trial operations at BCM and Texas Children’s Hospital, in partnership with the pediatric cystic fibrosis center, attempting to identify novel therapeutics for this population.
